What is United Way of Greater Attleboro/Taunton's administrative overhead?
UWGAT's overhead is approximately 21%, which includes fundraising, marketing, and administrative costs. This is a lower percentage than most nonprofits nationwide and the 35% standard suggested by the Council of Better Business Bureaus. We are fortunate to have many of our costs absorbed by local corporate sponsors.
What is the United Way of America and how are you affiliated?
The United Way of America, located in Alexandria, VA, provides training and services to the 1400 independant United Ways across America. It does not do any fundraising, nor does it make any policy for local United Ways. In exchange for national advertising and educational development support, UWGAT pays dues of less than one-tenth of one percent of the total campaign dollars raised.
I heard some negative news about United Way recently. What was that about and why should I give?
In the past, there have been stories in the news regarding management practices at the United Way of the National Capital Area in Washington, D.C. We want you to know that these are not the practices of the United Way of Greater Attleboro/Taunton. Each United Way is an independent, community organization and the United Way of Greater Attleboro/Taunton maintains strict financial controls and professional ethics to guard against fraud.
Did UWGAT stop funding the Boy Scouts?
No. UWGAT continues to support Scout Reach, a program that subsidizes Scouts of America for scouting programs for boys from low-income families.
